SKYCITY Hamilton Northern Spirit (104-5 in 20 overs) lost to Canterbury Magicians (105-1 in 15 overs) by nine wickets at Lincoln No.3
After a delayed start, Katie Gurrey (51 from 55) followed up from yesterday's half century with another, this time combining with Bernadine Bezuidenhout (34 from 37) to put on 51 for the second wicket. Gurrey had her cut shot working well and found the gaps in the Magician's off side field regularly, ending up with nine fours in her innings, before falling in the 16th over when Lea Tauhuhu removed her off stump and put the brakes on the Spirit's innings just when they were looking to push on to a big score with wickets in hand.
Felicity Leydon-Davis (1) and Kate Anderson (2) went cheaply, before Bezuidenhout was caught skying Amy Satterthwaite in the last. The Spirit finished on 104-5 from their 20 overs.
Kirsty Nation went on the first ball of the innings trying to lift Eimear Richardson over the top, only to be caught by Anderson for a duck. There were few bright spots for the Spirit after that, with Frankie Mackay (32 not out) and Satterthwaite (68 not out) largely untroubled as they reached their target in just 15 overs.
WHITE FERNS skipper Satterthwaite was the aggressor, using her feet to come down the track to the spinners and striking through the leg side field for ten fours in her innings, ably supported by Mackay. The Magicians got home with plenty of overs and wickets up their sleeve to sit on top of the table on net run rate after the Lincoln rounds.
